How to Create Great Content for Online Marketing
In the game of online marketing it’s all about attraction. And attraction starts with clear strategy, your target audience, and content that gets you and your business noticed so that you can actually flip the sales funnel and have people find you!
This article is written for any small business owner who clearly understands the power of creating content for online marketing. I am referring specifically to the content we all need as business owners and marketers for killer eBooks, engaging blog posts, and compelling copy for converting visitors and prospects into paying customers.
So when it comes to creating GREAT content for online marketing, it’s easy to get frustrated as heck trying to keep up with it all. In fact, it’s downright impossible. I know because I’ve been doing it for almost six years straight now.
Ever wonder how any busy business owner or professional pulls off looking like a superstar on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and in Google organic search results? Very few do it by themselves, for long.
The truth is THE MARKETING GAME HAS CHANGED FOREVER. And it’s almost impossible to produce enough meaningful, engaging content to stay visible enough online to attract and earn your fair share of new customers.
The good news that most business owners are still completely asleep at the wheel we it comes to great content for online marketing. I can tell in about five minutes of research if you or any of your competitors is in the game when it comes to being noticed, found and MONETIZING your content for online marketing.
The point here is if you feel like you’re late to the game, so what? Get on the bus now! It’s never too late for you to commit to learning and applying these proven disciplines for generating leads, building community and growing businesses.
Yes. It’s really about monetizing your marketing. So what if you have 15 billion friends or Likes. Does it really matter how many people are "following" you if you’re business is sucking wind?
Online marketing works in every business. No exceptions. BUT in order to have a chance to compete online you NEED CONTENT!
Really, really GREAT CONTENT. Not something your niece scraped off someone’s website while on a homework break. You need great stuff to stand out.
Great content pays. Especially when you have a system and a calendar and a plan so everyone on your team is working in ALIGNMENT.
You and I and everyone else on the planet knows it when they see great content. This is true because great content ENGAGES your ideal prospect and audience.
Your content, when done well ATTRACTS more leads, prospects and paying clients or customers to you and your business.
The bottom line is that writing all the eBooks, blog posts, articles, emails, newsletters, websites, landing pages, sales pages, and so on requires what I call the "3 T’s" …
Talent… you must deploy the talent you have in the right places.
Time… you definitely can’t find enough of it to create all the content you need.
Team… you’re dead in the water without one.
- Talent is a gift from God. Sure, if you stink at writing I suppose you could learn. Yet, wouldn’t it make more sense to focus on things you’re actually good at doing? The real reason I stink in music, for example, is I am not willing to put in the practice time. I don’t have much God-given talent. And I don’t have the patience to put in the work to overcome my lack of talent. (However, I am willing to put in 50 billion hours hammering on my MacBook Pro keyboard day and night. I like it. Therefore I have a shot at creating some content that serves my audience well and helps me better position and grow the business.)
- Time. Every business owner I know is short of time. So knock out what you can do alone even if it’s only LEADING your team when it comes to marketing, sales and content. Do your best knowing you can’t possibly do it all. Everyone can pick at least one social media platform, like Facebook, and do a decent job with very little time investment. But you can’t expect much in the way of results unless you show up well and consistently. It’s all about laser focus and doing what you can do on your own, well. Then delegate the rest which leads me to…
- Team. You need a team of creative people behind you. I do. So does every other business owner who wants to market their business in a way that results happen. You need writers who get your voice. You need people who can edit. You need people who can do video stuff. You need people who get strategy. You need analytics. You need someone to help you actually LEARN from the analytics and so on.
To there you have it. The 3 T’s. (I just made that up a while ago.)
You need GREAT content for online marketing. Commit what talent you have in the right place. Allocate time to where it is best invested based on your talent. And build a team, fast.
